Can I get glasses and hearing aids from the VA?

It is possible. However, each VA Medical Center is allowed to make their own policy in regards to providing free glasses and hearing aids to Veterans. Veterans who are service-connected for hearing loss will be eligible for hearing aids. To determine your eligibility call your local VA hospital.

Can I transfer my Post 9-11 GI Bill to a Child or Spouse?

The key thing to remember about Post-9/11 GI Bill transfers is that they must be submitted and approved while on Active Duty. Transfers generally require serving an additional period on Active Duty. It is used as a retention tool and changes are made using DoD's Transfer of Education Benefits website. You may transfer up to 36 months to one or more family members enrolled in DEERS. To use the transferred benefits, family members complete and submit VA FORM 22-1990e. If you have any more questions, please contact the VA @ 888-GIBILL1 (888.442.4551)

Can you help me file a service-connected disability claim?

Absolutely! There is no need for a Crawford County Veteran to travel outside of our area to file a claim. We also caution against filing it online, yourself. We can provide valuable tips, insight, and follow-up on your claim. There is no charge for any of our services.

Can you help me get my medals I was awarded but never issued or lost?

You may request replacement medals at Here for yourself or if you are a family member of a deceased Veteran you may also apply for them Here as well.

Can you help my child with registering with the Draft?

Unfortunately, we cannot help with this. However you may go Here and register.

How can I get a copy of my DD214?

There are a few ways:
o we may have it on file if you've worked with us before
o we may be able to find it in the WI Dept. of Veterans Affair's database
o you may be able to find it via the eBenefits.va.gov website Here (login, then click on 'My Documents' on the left side of the screen)
o you can request it from the National Personnel Records Center via the eVetRecs website Here.

How do I find out the status of my application for VA Healthcare?

You can check the status of your VA healthcare application by contacting the VHA where the application was submitted.  Tomah – 800.872.8662 extension 61129 or Madison – 888.478.8321 extension 17038. 

How do I find the phone number for an office at the VA?

The VA has an information line you can call 24/7 to find the number of the office you need to reach. The number for that office is 1.844.MyVA311 (1.844.698.2311).

How do I get a copy of my COE for a VA Home Loan?

First, visit this website to ensure that you meet the Department of Veteran's Affairs eligibility requirements located Here.                                   o The Certificate of Eligibility is usually obtained by your lender. Their process is often much faster than requesting it through the VA. If for some reason your lender can't assist, you can apply for it Here. Follow these steps:
o After logging in, click 'Apply' (on the left)
o Scroll down to 'Housing' and click on 'Certificate of Eligibility for Home Loan

How do I get a Veteran's ID card?

In late 2017 the Department of Veterans Affairs began offering a Federal Veteran's ID Card. To get the card, follow these instructions:
Go Here.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click 'Apply for a printed Veteran ID Card' under the middle column titled 'Popular on Vets.gov'
Complete the application process. You may have to upload your DD-214, a scanned copy of your driver's license and a passport photo to use as the photo on the new card. The entire process takes several months.
There is also a state option - in Wisconsin a veteran can have a 'Veteran Identifier' added to his/her driver's license. To be eligible, your DD-214 must show your discharge as Honorable or General Under Honorable Conditions. You also must meet the state eligibility requirements.  Lastly, if you're enrolled in the Tomah or Madison VA Medical Centers for healthcare you can obtain a VA Healthcare ID card from their ID card office.

How do I notify the VA if my banking info or my address has changed?

If your address has changed you must notify the VA Hospital that you receive care from and you must call 800.827.1000 to let them know. If your banking info has changed you may call 877.838.2778 and speak with them. Be prepared to provide them with your current award amount, your previous bank information and your new banking information. Do not close out your bank account until this has been completed.

How do I sign up for VA Healthcare?

To sign-up for VA healthcare you'll need your most recent tax return and account numbers for any current insurance programs in which you're already enrolled. It's also best to review the form they require, the 10-10EZ, which you can find Here.
The best method is to complete the VA FORM 10-10EZ with us in our office and we'll fax it in for you
o The next best method is to go to a VA Medical Center and apply in-person at the Registration section. This way, you can ask and get answers to your questions right there on the spot. They'll likely know whether you've been approved within 30 minutes.
o You can apply over the phone by calling 1.877.222.VETS (8387) Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST.
