Farmland Preservation Zoning

Currently three Townships in Crawford County have Certified Farmland Preservation Zoning Districts.  These are the Townships of: Freeman, Haney and Utica.  State residents with land in these Townships can qualify for the $7.50 per acre tax credit if they meet all requirements.

Soil & Water Resource Management (SWRM) Cost Share Program

Each year DATCP allocates a certain amount of funds to provide cost sharing in Crawford County.  Since the dollar amount of the grant is relatively small in comparison to the amount of cost share requests, the LCPZ has set a limit of 50% - 70% cost sharing up to $7,000 of total cost share. Cost sharing is available for a variety of the traditional conservation practices used in Crawford County.

Nutrient Management Planning

Nutrient Management is a way for Wisconsin farmers to ensure that their crops get the right source of nutrients at the right rate, time and place to match crop needs and minimize nutrient losses from fields. Nutrient management requires soil testing, record-keeping, crop management planning, and meeting state and federal standards.

Cost-sharing is available to implement a nutrient management plan.

Environmental Quality Incentives Program

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary conservation program offered through the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service. It supports production agriculture and environmental quality as compatible goals. Through EQIP, farmers may receive financial and technical help with structural and management conservation practices on agricultural land.

Wildlife Damage

Wisconsin has a program that assists farmers when wildlife damages their agricultural crops. The Wildlife Damage Abatement and Claims Program (WDACP) provides damage prevention assistance and partial compensation to farmers when wild deer, elk, bear, geese and turkeys damage their agricultural crops.
Wildlife managers issue agricultural damage shooting permits to farmers for removal of deer -- and occasionally bear, geese and turkeys -- that cause damage.
