Every resident of the county served by a circuit court who is at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and is able to understand the English Language is qualified to serve as a juror in that court unless he or she has been convicted of a felony and has not had his or her civil rights restored. The most important qualities of a juror are fairness and impartiality. A juror must lay aside bias and prejudice. A juror is the foundation of our judicial system, and his or her actions and decisions should reflect this important role.
Jurors are randomly selected from the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT), Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driver's license and identification lists. It is important to keep your address with the DMV current to ensure that a juror summons and questionnaire reaches you.
If you are in receipt of a juror qualification questionnaire, please return the questionnaire on or before the designated date by mail or in person. If submitting your questionnaire via the internet, this link will be helpful: https://juror.wicourts.gov/juror-qualification-questionnaire/search *Tip: You will need your juror ID number and birth date.
If summonsed as a juror, you will receive a summons stating the date and time you must appear for jury service. You will want to use the juror hot line voice mail recording system that provides updates on the trial status and any change in date and time to report and/or further instruction. The juror hotline number for Crawford County is (608) 326-0222. During office hours you may call (608) 326-0211 if you have a question. If a trial is canceled, you will be notified via text or email if your information is on file, otherwise you will receive a phone call from the Clerk of Court office.
If summonsed to serve as a juror and you are requesting to be excused or postpone your month of service, all requests must be made in writing to the Judge prior to the trial date. If you submit a request to be excused due to a medical reason, a doctor’s statement is to also accompany your request.
